When we were deciding what we wanted to name the blog, Nathan was fixated on "The Walkabout". He got the idea from his old boss' out of office message saying "I'm on a walkabout" any time he would go on an extended vacation. His boss is Australian and makes more sense for him to use it than us admittedly.

In January, we packed up our little '07 Rav4 to start the first part of what we call our "gap year" or "walkabout". This time was to be spent primarily going to places where we could ski new terrain and explore more towns out West. We both like to ski (Nathan even more so) which is why the first tour was dedicated to this activity.

These months were filled with a lot of time in the car, skiing new mountains, meeting up with friends along the way, and hiking with the dogs. Skiing allowed us to explore towns within the states like Bozeman, Boise, Jackson, and Driggs while also visiting Canada (Revelstoke, Canmore, Lake Louise).

After taking a short respite in Denver, we packed up our car again and left for Ohio. For the next couple of weeks we visited family/friends, fit our lives into two backpacks, and dropped off our dogs at "summer camp" (aka the Zuber's house in Indiana).
